Here are the upcoming events where our staff will represent Laal and spread the word on all of our initiatives, programs and research.
Laal will be attending our second DC Boi Mela from (dates), the nation’s largest Bengali book fair(fact check), to speak about our services and impact in Washington D.C. Bangladeshi and Bengali authors, publishers, artists, dancers, and singers from all across North America will gather at this two-day celebration of Bangla language and literature. The event showcases the theme of "Bissho jure Bangla boi" or “Worldwide Bangla Books”, through music, dance acts, poetry readings, short films, and panel discussions. It is important for Laal to engage with the wider diaspora, exchange concepts, and resources, and most importantly, commemorate our rich cultural heritage and history. Take a look at some clips of last year’s Boi Mela conference!
From August 22nd - 24th we will attend the The National Sexual Assault Conference (NSAC) in San Francisco, CA which brings together over 2,000 advocates and activists invested in ending sexual violence. This annual conference provides opportunities to share information and resources, advance learning, develop new skills, and increase our capacity to assert the dignity of all people. The 2023 conference theme of “Equity in Action” will allow the opportunity to build strong partnerships and strategies that strengthen our work to end sexual violence.
From October 3 through Thursday, October 5 Laal will attend the Peer-to-Peer National ARP Convening in Washington DC as part of our ARP DV grant through the Support for Survivors Program. This will be a three-day opportunity for learning, connecting, and networking with organizations serving Sexual Assault & Domestic Violence Survivors in the AAPI community.
On October 31st, 2023 we will celebrate Laal’s 5th birthday! It is unbelievable how far we have come in such a short amount of time, and of course, don’t forget to mark your calendars and save the date for our summer gala celebration, Laal Grishmo on June 7th, 2024 for a magical night celebrating Bengali womxn in the Bronx with food, drinks and performances!
