Anurima Kumar (she/her) is Laal's Development Assistant. Anurima graduated from the University of Michigan with a BA in Community & Global Public Health and minors in Applied Statistics and Art & Design and from Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health with a MPH in Sociomedical Sciences. Anurima has worked across the non-profit and government sector in research, program development and evaluation at organizations catering to justice, including the ACLU of D.C., RAINN, the Washtenaw County Health Department, and Arts Ignite. She is also an interdisciplinary artist and a youth arts educator at the Lower Eastside Girls Club.

Anurima has seen Laal’s work since 2020 when she invited Sanjana to speak at her college’s South Asian Social Justice Conference. She has since been inspired by the impact of Laal on the community and the growth in the last years. Anurima researches grants for Laal and skillfully crafts Laal’s narratives. She is excited to be at Laal to help secure the funding needed to expand, as well as to learn how to effectively conduct grassroot approaches to address community need

In her own words, "I have always wanted to work somewhere that truly prioritizes community and the needs of those it serves. As an Indian woman, I have also seen that so-called South Asian spaces are always dominated by the majority. Many South Asian communities do not have a space to address their unique issues, and are lumped into a monolith."
